21 Nov 2012

The Minister of Public Works, Mr T W Nxesi, MP, cordially invites you to the 3rd Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) Municipal Summit to be held with all 278 municipalities as follows:

Date: 26 to 28 November 2012, Monday to Wednesday
Time: 08H00 am each day
Venue: Saint George Hotel and Conference Centre, Gauteng

The summit will be hosted under the themeEPWP best practices: 2013 and beyond”. The municipalities will be given an opportunity to share best practices in the implementation of the EPWP in line with the resolutions adopted during the 2011 summit.

The municipalities are expected to contribute 27% towards the overall EPWP targets for the period 2009/10 - 2013/14 (phase 2).

Since 2010, the National Department of Public Works (NDPW) has annually hosted the EPWP Municipal summit aiming at engaging all the municipalities and ensuring that the municipalities fully implement the Programme.

Among the key stakeholders who will be attending the summit are: the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), the Independent Development Trust (IDT), the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) and all Municipalities from across the country.

To date, over 2 million work opportunities have been created across all four sectors of EPWP, i.e. Infrastructure Sector, Non State Sector, Environment & Culture Sector, and the Social Sector, with an aim to create 4.5 million work opportunities for the unemployed by 2014.

NB: There will be a Gala dinner on 27 November 2012, Tuesday at 18h30, the same venue as indicated above.

Please RSVP with Siyabonga Mhlanga on 076 3915 667 and Eric Mkhunjulwa on 078 355 1590 or Lesego Moretlwe on 082 957 3677.
