Minister Edna Molewa to launch the National Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Report

The Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Ms Edna Molewa will officially launch the National Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Report (NECER) 2011/12 on Thursday, 22 November 2012 in Cape Town.

The objective of the NECER is to provide a national overview of environmental compliance and enforcement activities undertaken by relevant institutions across the country during the period 1 April 2011 – 31 March 2012.

The report includes the work of the Environmental Management Inspectorate (EMI), commonly known as the Green Scorpions. The Green Scorpions are a network of environmental compliance and enforcement officials from national, provincial and municipal government. It is these EMIs that are tasked with ensuring the implementation of, and adherence to specific pieces of national environmental legislation.

The media briefing will provide a platform for the Minister to provide details on the findings of the report, including some of the most prevalent crimes reported during the 2011/12 period.

Date: Thursday, 22 November 2012
Venue: Imbizo Media Centre, 120 Plein Street, Cape Town
Time: 12h15 – 13h00

There will be a video link to the GCIS Media Briefing Room, Midtown Building, cnr Sisulu and Madiba Streets, Pretoria (old street names: Prinsloo and Vermeulen). The Minister will be in Cape Town.
