Launch of the State of the World Population Report

12 Nov 2012

The Department of Social Development in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) invites members of the media to the launch of the State of the World Population Report which will be released globally on the same day, 14 November 2012.

The report – themed By Choice, Not By Chance: Family Planning, Human Rights and Development – looks at key issues relating to the achievement of the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals four and five which speak to child health and maternal health, respectively, with a specific focus on family planning.

The Report also highlights that every year thousands of women die unnecessarily from unintended and often unwanted pregnancies.  It also looks at how children’s health is compromised when mother’s pregnancies are not adequately spaced.

The Minister for Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, will deliver the key note address at the launch.

The event is scheduled to take place as follows:
Date: 14 November 2012
Time: 09h00
Venue: Iziko Lobomi Centre, Imizamoyethu, Main Road, Mandela Park, Hout Bay, Cape Town

Directions:  Take Victoria Road to Hout Bay past Camps Bay. At the Chapmans Peak sign – take a left turn. Go past the police station on your left and see the Isiko centre on the right.
