Minister Dlamini to visit Orange Farm for monitoring and evaluation

22 Oct 2012

As part of the broader strategy to address service delivery and inequality among all people in South Africa, the Minister for Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini will on Tuesday, 23 October 2012 visit Orange Farm in Gauteng to evaluate service delivery programmes and find ways to speed up delivery where needed.

Orange Farm has a high unemployment rate as a result of poverty, high rate of teenage pregnancies, alcohol abuse, child and youth headed households, school drop out and different forms of child abuse.

The Department of Social Development’s main mandate is to ensure that the most vulnerable communities and individuals in our country have access to services for the realisation of their constitutional rights and social integration. The visit forms part of the Social Development Month which takes place annually during October. During Social Development Month the Department of Social Development visits areas that are poor and underdeveloped with the aim of engaging these communities to find solutions to their challenges, including livelihood and socio-economic problems.

The event will take place as follows:
Date: Tuesday, 23 October 2012
Time: 10h00
Venue: Chris Hani Sports Complex (Orange Farm)

Members of the media are invited to cover the event.
