Information workshop

10 Sep 2012

The National Treasury is co-hosting an international conference with the Alliance for Financial Inclusion in Cape Town on 26 to 28 September, which will attract policymakers from more than 80 developing nations, as well as participation from global partners in the financial inclusion arena, including the World Bank and CGAP (Consultative Group to Assist Poor). Many senior financial services policymakers have already confirmed attendance, including those from Malawi, Namibia, Zambia, Kenya, Bangladesh and Nigeria, to mention but a few.

The theme of the conference is “Making Financial Inclusion Real.”

In preparation for the conference, the National Treasury is holding a background information workshop on Tuesday, 18 September.

The workshop will focus on what is meant with the term financial inclusion, why it is important and what the issues are around financial inclusion. Some of the highlights to have come out of previous conferences and what developing countries are doing to boost access to financial services for the 2.5 billion financially excluded people in the world will be discussed.

The details for the workshop are as follows.
