Truancy operation to take place in Delft tomorrow

10 Sep 2012

In June, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) conducted a school counter- truancy operation in Athlone.

Following the success of the Athlone operation, the WCED will be holding a similar campaign in Delft tomorrow.

The operation is a collaborative transversal event between the Western Cape Government, South African Police Service (SAPS), the City of Cape Town and various community organisations.

The objective of the operation is to address the issue of truancy and absenteeism in the Delft area.

The operation will be based at Hindle High School where SAPS and WCED officials will be waiting to process ‘truant learners’ names and details.

Once their details had been recorded, they were then transported to their relevant school.

Counsellors, social workers and health practitioners will also be stationed at the community hall to assist with learners needing support or counselling.

The MEC will be visiting the base of the operation. He will then proceed to the home of a learner that is frequently absent from school and will join the search for truant learners within the community.

Time: 08h00
Date: 11 September 2012
Where: Hindle High School, Hindle Road West, N2 Gateway, Delft. (It is the only school in Hindle road and it is close to Symphony way in Delft.)
