Department of Mineral Resources conveys its condolences on the passing of Dr Frans Barker

3 Sep 2012

On hearing today of the passing of one of the South African mining industry’s most astute and dedicated colleagues, Dr. Frans Barker, the Minister: Ms Susan Shabangu, Deputy Minister: Mr Godfrey Oliphant and officials of the Department of Mineral Resources wish to convey their heartfelt condolences to the Barker family and the Chamber of Mines.

“Frans was such a dedicated colleague, eager to get to a solution yet very calm during hard times. His contribution to the mining industry will forever continue to guide us as we again as the sector face challenges. His expertise contributed immensely in moving us forward and for that we will sorely miss him”, said Minister Shabangu.

The department joins with so many others that knew Dr Barker in mourning and extend its deepest sympathy for his passing.
