Minister Grant to announce details on the WCED’s infrastructure plan

3 Sep 2012

Tomorrow morning, Minister Donald Grant will be announcing details on the Western Cape Education Department’s (WCED) infrastructure plan for the years 2013/14 to 2015/16.

Detailed backlog assessments have been conducted taking into account the need for new schools, schools that require replacement and expansion, and those that need to be upgraded and repaired.

In the plan there has been a shift in emphasis in the direction of maintenance and new schools. However, the plan also includes provision for the replacement of schools with inappropriate materials, the building of Grade R and mobile classrooms and the expansion of schools.

For the first time, life-cycle maintenance management is being introduced to deal with the maintenance of WCED infrastructure stock. The plan envisages increasing maintenance expenditure for both scheduled maintenance projects and life-cycle maintenance.

Details of the event:
Where: The Ministry, 23rd floor, Sanlam Building, Golden Acre, Adderley Street
Time: 11h30
Date: 4 September 2012
