Government welcome Team SA as they arrive from the Olympics today

14 Aug 2012

Government welcome Team SA as they return from the Olympics today after making the nation proud by delivering 6 medals for South Africa. The team is due to arrive at 07h00 at the OR Tambo International Airport today, 14 August 2012. Government is extremely proud of the team and calls upon South Africans to gather in their numbers to welcome our heroes and heroines.

South Africa made history at the games when Oscar Pistorius, the first double-amputee was allowed to compete against able-bodied athletes at the Olympics. South Africa also displayed a brilliant performance by receiving medals in the Swimming, Rowing, Athletics and Canoeing sporting codes. South Africa now looks forward to RIO 2016 with eagerness.

“We join the multitudes of sport enthusiasts in congratulating our athletes for their best performance and grit at the games. Team SA has emerged as shining stars and are now exemplary to those who want to achieve greatness. Government hopes that these achievements will inspire our local youth to follow in their steps and realise South Africa’s dream”, Government Spokesperson, Mr Jimmy Manyi said.

Members of the public are urged to wear their national sporting colours and join the nation in honouring Team SA.
