President Jacob Zuma to attend a reburial ceremony in Kuruman, Northern Cape

10 Aug 2012

President Jacob Zuma will on Sunday, 12 August 2012, attend the reburial ceremony of the late Klaas and Trooi Pienaar in Kuruman, in the Northern Cape province.

Under the theme: “The restoration of humanity and dignity of people violated by the colonial regimes”, the event is organised by the Department of Arts and Culture in conjunction with the Northern Cape Provincial Government.

The couple were amongst bodies that were dug up and exported to Vienna, Austria for experiments by Austrian anthropologist Rudolph Pöch.

The programme is part of rehumanisation and restoring the dignity suffered during the colonial and apartheid periods.
