National Planning Commission handover of the revised National Development Plan to President Zuma at a joint sitting of Parliament on Wednesday, 15 August 2012 and arrangements for an opportunity for journalists to read the Plan prior to the event

10 Aug 2012

The National Planning Commission (NPC) will be handing over the revised National Development Plan to President Jacob Zuma at a joint sitting of Parliament on 15 August 2012 at 10:00.

At the handover of the NPC’s draft National Development Plan on 11November2011, the President called on the Commission to engage with South Africans and tap into the collective wisdom of citizens to refine the plan.  Following a six month period of public consultation, the Commission is now ready to hand over the revised plan to the President.

A media reading facility has been arranged from 08:00 to 09:30 on Wednesday, 15 August 2012 at the Good Hope Chamber, Good Hope Building, Parliament.  A hard copy of the Overview Chapter and a flash disc with the full revised Plan will be provided to journalists at the venue. You are advised to bring your laptop for this purpose. The Joint Sitting will then begin at 10:00 in the National Assembly. Immediately after the sitting, a media briefing will take place with the Chairperson of the NPC, Minister Trevor Manuel and fellow NPC commissioners at the Imbizo centre. This will provide an opportunity for questions.

It is critical that members of the media register for the reading session as well for attendance at the event itself. There will be no admission without formal accreditation.

To facilitate registration and accreditation, please contact Sithembile Mbete from the NPC secretariat at 083 686 2554 and 012 308 1462. Kindly RSVP with your identity or passport number by 12:00 on Monday, 13 August 2012 to sithembilem@po.gov.za.

Kindly bring an official form of identification to gain entrance.
