President Zuma to attend Women’s Day celebrations

President Jacob Zuma will on Thursday, 9 August 2012, attend and deliver a keynote address at the National Women's Day celebrations at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

Held under the theme "56 years of women united against poverty, inequality and unemployment" this year's event will mark 56th anniversary of the women's anti-pass march to the Union Buildings. This historic march which took place in 1956 marked a turning point in the role of women in the struggle for freedom and society at large.

This year's theme focuses on main challenges of South Africa in fighting poverty, inequality and unemployment of which women bear the most brunt.
