The trial of Prosthetist accused of defrauding DoL’s Compensation Fund continues

6 Aug 2012

The trial of Peter Brian Viljoen (69), a prosthetist accused of allegedly defrauding the Department of Labour’s (DoL) Compensation Fund (CF), will resume in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Friday.

Viljoen who operates in Alberton, Gauteng is alleged to have defrauded the DoL’s Compensation Fund of more than R80 000. He is facing one count of fraud. In the Court papers, Viljoen is alleged to have made a fraudulent claim from DoL’s Compensation Fund, after claiming to have provided a prosthesis to a patient, whereas the service was provided by a competitor. The trial will proceed with further cross-examination of State witness.

Viljoen was arrested in October 2010. He has pleaded not guilty and is out on a warning.
