Parliamentary committees visit different provinces

28 Jul 2012

In line with their mandate to monitor and oversee the Executive, a number of parliamentary committees will next week, 29 July to 3 August embark on oversight visits to various provinces.

Following an alarming rate of fatalities in mines, the Portfolio Committee on Mineral Resources will visit mines in KwaZulu-Natal. The committee will focus on assessing the identified mines' level of compliance to the Mining Charter, mining laws, health and safety, as well as the working and living conditions of mine workers.

Meanwhile, the Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements will undertake an oversight visit to check progress on houses built by the Department of Human Settlements in the Eastern Cape province.
