The Department of Health biggest win (Gold Award) in the KwaZulu-Natal Premier's Service Excellence Awards

6 Jul 2012

The Department of Health in KwaZulu-Natal has done it again by winning a gold award during the Premier's Service Excellence Awards, which took place on 5 July 2012 in International Convention Centre, Durban.

The department was the overall winner, leading all departments who participated. Manguzi hospital in Umkhanyakude District received the gold award. In 2005 the department through Grey's hospital in Umgungundlovu District won the same award.

Through sheer dedication, compassion and hard work, Manguzi hospital saw itself winning such a prestigious award. This hospital has consistently displayed and demonstrated an attitude of tenacity to achieve the required best practice standards according to Batho Pele Principles, Patients' Rights, Citizens' Charter and Service Commitment Charter. This success of Manguzi hospital emanates from the institutionalised culture of collaboration amongst stakeholders.

The achievement of Manguzi hospital was graced by the presence of MEC for Health Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo and HOD Dr Sibongile Zungu whose leadership is well acknowledged in the delivery of public health care services in the province.

MEC and HOD were indeed honoured by this achievement of the department. The department is confident that with the level of dedication and commitment in the delivery of quality health care, it will continue to win more awards in the future.
