KwaZulu-Natal’s first conference on financial education and financial literacy

26 Jun 2012

KZN MEC for Finance, Ms Ina Cronjé, in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Financial Literacy Association, have pleasure in inviting you to the KwaZulu-Natal’s first conference on Financial Education and Financial Literacy: “Promoting financial literacy: Taking financial education to the people,” which will take place on 3 to 4 July 2012 in Pietermaritzburg at the Commerce Building of the Pietermaritzburg Campus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

National Finance Minister, Mr Pravin Gordhan and KZN Premier, Dr Zweli Mkhize will speak on the first day of the Conference which is co-organised by the KwaZulu-Natal Financial Literacy Association (KZNFLA), and the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Treasury. In the framework of the KZNFLA’s comprehensive strategy on financial education this conference will focus on: Policies; Challenges; Solutions and Implementation.

The conference is not intended to provide financial education, but intends to improve knowledge and understanding of how to provide better financial education through sharing, discussing and learning from research and practical experiences.

The two day sessions will be conducted as follows:

Day 1: Sessions will provide an overview of the status of financial education in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa and internationally – with the main focus being on KwaZulu-Natal. Media briefing at 10h00. A networking cocktail function which will be held directly after the first day’s sessions will provide delegates with an opportunity to network.

Day 2: Sessions will concentrate on the practical implementation of financial education programmes with breakaway sessions, which will be followed by a plenary session, with a summary of each of the five focus groups. The programme director will then present a summary of the conference findings, conclusions and recommendations for taking the campaign forward into the next phase.

Media transport from Durban is available on request for the first day as there will be a media briefing at 10h00. The KZNFLA cordially invites all the media to be part of this historic conference which is scheduled as follows:

Date: 3 to 4 July 2012 (Tuesday and Wednesday)
Time: 08h00
Venue: Commerce Building of the Pietermaritzburg Campus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Pietermaritzburg.
