Western Cape Transport and Public Works MEC Carlisle hails amicable solution on Chapman's Peak
21 Jun 2012 “Today I have been advised by our legal services that the Hout Bay Resident’s Association (HBRA) have agreed to withdraw their summons in the High Court to stop the construction of the Chapman’s Peak toll building. We have in turn agreed to withdraw the costs orders against the HBRA which were ordered by Judge Allie following their first bid to stop construction”, said MEC Carlisle.
“I truly welcome this development. It brings to an end a fight that I didn’t look for and didn’t enjoy being in. Many of those opposed to the project had been friends and allies in the struggle against apartheid. These last months have not been happy ones for me, even though my position was vindicated by the High Court. It is in this spirit that I have also decided to withdraw the defamation case against Mr Swimmer.” Media enquiries:
