Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa to give keynote address and officially open POLMED Building

20 Jun 2012

The Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa will tomorrow give a keynote address at the opening of the POLMED Offices, in Pretoria.

In his address, the Minister is expected to emphasise the importance of health and wellness amongst SAPS employees and their immediate families. To this end, he will outline some of the current available stress, psychological employee assistance programmes which are freely-available for police officers to enable them to deal with stress-related challenges. In addition, he is expected to call for the strengthening of the public private partnerships (PPP) as mandated by government in pursuit of fostering collaborative efforts towards service delivery.  Consequent to the latter, the SAPS through the component Employee Health and Wellness, has an ongoing partnership with POLMED.

The South African Police Service Medical Scheme referred to as POLMED, was registered as a closed medical scheme registered under the Medical Schemes Act.  Only employees of the SAPS appointed under the South African Police Service Act (Act 68 of 1995) and their dependants are eligible to be members of POLMED.
