New National Commissioner meets top South African Police Service (SAPS) Management

15 Jun 2012

This morning the newly appointed National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), General Riah Phiyega, met with the top management of the police.

General Phiyega, was heartily welcomed by the top structure of the SAPS, which included Deputy National Commissioners, Divisional as well as all the Provincial Commissioners. Our female senior management also expressed their joy and pride for having a woman selected as National Commissioner, a first and historical moment in the SAPS. After the introductions, the National Commissioner then shared her background and work experience as well as her vision for the challenging road ahead for the organisation.

Furthermore she indicated her willingness to roll-up her sleeves, and get to know the ins and outs of the organisation. “I bring with me the necessary qualifications, experience and skills which will allow me to steer this organisation towards a culture of good corporate governance and administration. Together with all of you, and relying on the wealth of experience among the management of the SAPS, we will also together take the fight against crime and criminals steadily forward,” said General Phiyega.

The top management expressed their total commitment to General Phiyega, acknowledged the wealth of experience, leadership qualities and embracing the transformation path this family of men and women in blue will undertake.
