MEC Alvin Botes to Visit Khomani San Leader: Dawid Kruiper in Hosipital

8 Jun 2012

Dawid Kruiper is a traditional leader and healer of the Khomani San people, hunter-gatherers living in the Kalahari Desert. They are more commonly known as Bushmen. Dawid Kruiper refers to himself as a Bushman, though not all San people are comfortable with the term Bushmen, which was originally applied to them by Europeans.

He is known for the role he played as a tracker in the film “The Gods Must Be Crazy II”, but most notably for an address made in 1994 to the United Nations regarding the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Oom Dawid Kruiper has fallen ill and is hospitalised, MEC Alvin Botes will be visiting Oom Dawid today at the Gordonia Hospital in Upington today (08 June 2012 at 13h30).
