Opening of a new Integrated Social Development Facility in Mamelodi
8 Jun 2012Gauteng MEC of Agriculture, Rural and Social Development, Nandi Mayathula-Khoza will open a new Social Development Centre, on Saturday, 9 June 2012, in Mamelodi. The occasion forms part of this year’s Child Protection Week themed, “working together to protect children” and it serves as the Provincial Closing Event for the 2012 Child Protection Week.
The objectives of the child protection awareness campaign are:
- To advocate for children’s rights, educate and mobilise families and communities about their responsibility towards the protection and care of children.
- To reduce incidents of Child Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation (CANE) through awareness campaigns.
- To inform and educate the public on the comprehensive basket of services needed by children in their emotional, cognitive and physical development.
Capacity of the facility
The new integrated social facility comprises of an Early Childhood Development Centre (120 children), a Day Centre for the Elderly (120 Elderly), a Centre for Orphaned and Other Vulnerable Children (120 Orphaned and Other Vulnerable Children-OVC, Workshops and a Community Hall.
