Response of the Minister of Public Works to the article in The Times dated 21 May 2012, 'Defence Minister on warpath – Public Works gets verbal broadside over lost land'

21 May 2012

I have noted the concerns expressed by Minister Lindiwe Sisulu regarding immovable assets falling under her department and held in trust by Public Works, and will be seeking a meeting with her to address these.

The long-standing absence of a comprehensive and reliable Immovable Assets Register, listing state-owned properties, is receiving priority attention by my department. As recently as 8 May in my Budget Vote speech, I reported on significant progress made in this respect.

In the meantime a joint team has been established between the Departments of Public Works and Defence to address outstanding issues.
