21 May 2012

President Jacob Zuma has received recommendations from the National Assembly for the appointment of nine commissioners to the Commission for Gender Equality.  The recommendation is in line with section 193 (4) of the Constitution.

The President is currently attending to the matter, and will finalise the appointments as soon as possible.

The Presidency reiterates its support and commitment to the work of the Commission for Gender Equality, our Chapter 9 institution tasked with promoting respect for gender equality and the protection, development and attainment of gender equality.

The Commission continues to enjoy Government support in its functions that include the capacity to monitor, investigate, research, educate, lobby, advise and report on issues concerning gender equality.
