Intercontinental Africa and Diaspora Film festival

21 May 2012

We would like to invite you to the Intercontinental Africa & Diaspora Film Festival that is scheduled to take place from the 22 ending on 24 May 2012 at the Sandton City. The festival is a side event to the 'Global Diaspora Summit' as explained below:

With  the upcoming African Union’s ‘Global Diaspora Summit’ of Heads of States hosted by the South African government, the Department of International Relation and Cooperation in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture have been engaging some arts practitioners to render side events such as art and craft among which there is an Intercontinental Africa & Diaspora Film festival.

The Intercontinental Africa & Diaspora Film Festival is a thematic festival of film and documentary selection that range from stories that realistically deal with relations of people in the Diaspora as well as their relations with the motherland. Some of the stories depict those in the Diaspora battling with rejection in the Diaspora as well as the difficulties of adjusting when they come back to the motherland. Some never made it back to the motherland.

The films show that despite these deep seated problems of relating to each other there has always been the willingness and support of efforts by the Diaspora to dispel negative legacy Africa has suffered as seen through the opening documentary ‘Cuba: An African Odyssey’... showing that the African Diaspora remain committed to contribute to the development of the African continent and strengthening the African Union.

Entrance is free. For availability of seats (Booking) at 011 714 6520 or iadff.awards@gmail.com (please state clearly which screening you would like to attend and whether you are with a partner).
