Gauteng Provincial Legislature to host the Workers Parliament

Gauteng Provincial Legislature will host the Workers Parliament on Tuesday 22 May in Westonaria in the West Rand as part of its oversight, law-making and public participation mandate. As part of recognition and celebration of the workers month, Workers Parliament objective is to provide a platform for workers to discuss issues affecting them and to make a contribution in transforming the economy of the Province.

Central to the theme of the event namely, “Transforming the economy of Gauteng into a labour intensive growth”, the Workers Parliament will provide an opportunity for workers to discuss the following topics:

  • Job creation towards eradicating jobless economic growth
  • Creation of decent work through inclusive economy
  • Creation of an effective labour force within a dynamic labour market
  • And skills requirement versus skills shortage and what is the Gauteng position?

Participants that will take part in the Workers Parliament include labour federations such as COSATU, FEDUSA, NACTU and CONSAWU, public and private sectors, formal and informal traders, farm and domestic workers and NGOs and CBOs that work in the area of the plight of workers in Gauteng.
