MEC visits farmers affected by hail storm

The Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza will pay an urgent visit to farmers affected by the hail storm yesterday in Krugersdorp today 15 January 2010 at 14h00.

The MEC will assess the damage in affected areas and this assessment will inform the kind of government intervention required.

The department has identified a vegetable farmer, poultry farmer and nursery which are affected along the N14 Ventersdorp and R25 Rustenburg roads. A nursery tunnel has collapsed, vegetable crops have been extensively damaged, chicken coops and homes have also been affected by the weather conditions that prevailed in the area yesterday.

Venue: Farmers around N14 Ventersdorp and R24 Rustenburg Road Krugersdorp
Time: 14h00
Date: 15 January 2010

More information will be released after the assessment and evaluation of the damage.
