MEC Vadi to present Department's budget to the Gauteng Legislature Portfolio Committee

10 May 2012

Gauteng department of Roads and Transport will present their 2012/13 budget to the portfolio committee at the Parktonian Hotel in Braamfontein on Friday 11 May at 13h00.

MEC for Roads and Transport, Mr Ismail Vadi, is expected to outline the Department’s breakdown of the budget on the pro grammes and projects they have planned to meet the service delivery targets for this financial year. The department was allocated an amount of R4,3 billion and the Portfolio Committee will be interested in how the money will be allocated to address policy imperatives as set out by President Jacob Zuma in the State of the Nation Address, Gauteng Premier’s State of the Province Address and National and Gauteng Province Budget Speeches.

Roads and Transport department offers the biggest revenue collection for the Gauteng government largely due to the collection of motor vehicle license fees. The department will be expected to provide the Portfolio Committee with detailed information on the budget allocation on programmes including administration, road infrastructure, transport operations, transport regulations and Gautrain.

The Gautrain programme is expected to receive the lowest budget allocation in comparison with the previous years due to the completion of the project. Road Infrastructure which comprises of planning, designing, construction and maintenance of roads is expected to receive a slight increase in budget allocation due to maintenance of existing roads as opposed to the construction of the new ones.
