President Jacob Zuma to attend Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opening ceremony

7 Jan 2010

President Jacob Zuma will attend the Africa Cup of Nations opening ceremony on 10 January 2010 in Luanda, Angola.

President Zuma will be accompanied by the Minister in the Presidency, Mr Collins Chabane.

During his State visit to Angola last year, President Zuma indicated South Africa’s support and good wishes to Angola on its hosting of the AFCON, this as South Africa draws nearer to hosting the biggest soccer spectacle, the 2010 FIFA World Cup in June this year.

The visit will also be used to further strengthen the warm historical relations between South Africa and Angola, forged during the struggle for liberation, when Angola provided sanctuary and solidarity to the ANC.
