The South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) in conjunction with the department of Arts and Culture (DAC) and Rhodes University is pleased to announce the opening of the Centre for Training, Research and Education (CenTRE) in Grahamstown, South Africa.

Working closely with the department of Arts and Culture, SAHRA has established a Centre for Training (CenTRE), Research and Education to address the need for on-going professional development in the heritage sector.

The CenTRE, as it is commonly referred to, is a ground breaking initiative in capacitating a cross section of the heritage fraternity and capacitating Provincial Heritage Authorities (PHRA’s), by way of offering a certificate course to 45 heritage practitioners in integrated heritage resources management.

The course is an accredited development programme for professionals working in the heritage sector, supported by the Construction Education and Training Authority, and is designed to improve on the delivery of services to communities in every province of the Republic.

The official opening of the CenTRE and the launch of the training programme will take place as follows:

Date: Monday, 7 May 2012
Venue: Rhodes University, Grahamstown

The Honourable Paul Mashatile, Minister of Arts and Culture, will conduct the official opening.

The official opening is planned to coincide with the first on campus session for 45 heritage practitioners drawn from a cross section of the heritage fraternity and various professionals working in the sector.
