President Jacob Zuma to deliver a keynote address at the Freedom Day celebrations

President Jacob Zuma will on Friday, 27 April 2012 deliver a keynote address at the Freedom Day celebrations in Union Building in Pretoria. This year's celebrations marks eighteen years of democracy in South Africa and will be held under theme:  "Working Together to Build Unity and Prosperity for All"

The formal programme will take place as follows:

Venue: Union Buildings, South Lawns, Pretoria
Time: 09h00

Freedom Day is an annual celebration of South Africa's first non-racial democratic elections that took place on 27 April 1994. It is a day that represents peace, unity, and the restoration of human dignity of all South Africans. In the spirit of building a South Africa that belongs to all, Freedom Day celebrations are intended to unite all South Africans in consolidating our country’s democracy.

The celebration will commence with a wreath-laying ceremony that will take place as follows:

Venue: Freedom Park, Pretoria
Times: 07h00

There will also be a cultural parade that will depart Jubilee Park, at 08h00 and proceed to Union Buildings. The parade will showcase all South African cultural groups as well as participants from Burundi, Eritrea, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Angola, Zimbabwe, Burundi and Rwanda. This will be followed by a cultural programme and music performances. Some of the artists who will perform at the event include DJ Zinhle, Gauteng Youth Orchestra, Lucky Dube Band, Freddy Arendse Ensemble, Ladies of Jazz, Liquid Deep, DJ Black Coffee, Napo Mashiane, Itumeleng Koma, and Soweto Marimba.

There will also be children’s corner (jumping castles, face-painting, shooting tunnel, indigenous games, balloon sculpture, laduma score a goal game, junior carousel, etc.) animal farm managed by professional child-minders for the entire day (27 April).
