Deputy Minister of Justice to take Small Claims Court to Bloemhof

18 Apr 2012

In line with the department mandate to take justice services to all the Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr Andries C Nel, MP, will officially launch a Small Claims Court in Bloemhof. The launch is another step by the department to ensure that there is an established and functional small claims court in each of the 384 magisterial districts in South Africa.

This commitment to have functional Small Claims Courts all over the country has been enhanced by last year’s renewal of a partnership between the department and the Swiss government worth R10 million over a four year period.

The Bloemhof Small Claims Court was promulgated on 23 December 2011 and its first sitting is scheduled for 19 April 2012.

Small claims Courts are powerful mechanism, which provide access to justice, especially to the poor based on speed, simplicity and cost effectiveness.
