Bafana remanded in custody as state opposes bail!

27 Nov 2009

"It's great news" exclaimed MEC Lekgoro after learning about the news that Bafana Madilongwe who attended court today was remanded in custody by the state. The state is opposing bail of Bafana Madilongwe aka Bafana Ntuli who became popular posing as a person who sells RDP houses. Following an expose by the Sowetan and e.tv's 3rd degree, Bafana was on the run until the police finally court up to him on Wednesday morning, 25 November 2009, at about 02h20).He was arrested by the Germiston Branch of the Commercial Crimes unit at Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg.

Earlier MEC Lekgoro had issued a warning to would-be con artists to desist from their wayward and illegal activities. "We would like to caution other people who might be thinking of defrauding the State that they too will be uncovered and brought to book. In the past we have arrested people who, for one reason or the other, thought that they could defraud the State and sell RDP houses meant for the poor," said MEC Lekgoro.

The court will resume on 3 December 2009, at the Alberton Magistrates Court.

Those people who might have been defrauded and still want to volunteer more information about the activities of Bafana may contact Inspector Mahlangu at the Germiston commercial crimes unit on 011 871 5000 or 011 871 5306 or 083 429 1255.
