Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) Minister Baloyi to address LED, municipal budgeting and service improvement seminar

Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) Richard Baloyi will give a key note address at a seminar on sharing stories on Local Economic Development (LED), municipal budgeting and service improvement.

The seminar is organised by the P3 partners which are the Swedish Association of Local Authorities (SALAR), the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), the Association of Local Authorities in Botswana (ALAN) and the Botswana Association of Local Authorities (BALA).

The seminar will be held as follows:

Venue: Emperors Palace, Johannesburg

The seminar, which will be hosted by South African Local Government Association (SALGA), will mark the end of the current partnership and the beginning of the new partnerships across Southern African countries. The partnership is funded by the European Union and the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).

It involves piloting of tools in 25 municipalities in South Africa, Namibia and Botswana on the following:

  • Standardised budgeting (Namibia)
  • Transparent tariff setting in municipal budgeting
  • Service improvement, an internal approach
  • Various analytical tools to promote LED, focusing on the role of municipalities.
