Gauteng Health Department has put recruitment of administrative staff on hold

14 Feb 2012

In an effort to achieve financial stability, the Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development has placed a hold on advertising and filling of administrative posts in the current financial year.

This action which will be reviewed at the beginning of the next financial year, will not affect service delivery as all critical posts in the health professional categories such doctors, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, allied and social workers, conditional grant positions, teaching and training posts will be filled during this period.

The critical posts will be filled in a coordinated manner so that there can be an effective utilisation of resources. Motivations for critical posts will be submitted by institutions to central office for consideration and approval.

The hold also affects administrative posts that have been advertised, interview process finalised but the appointments have not been finalised. These will also be subjected to a review in the new financial year.

Central office has been monitoring all appointments and this process will be strengthened to ensure adherence.

As another initiative to improve the department’s financial situation, senior managers have been asked to tighten control of overtime and paying private work in addition to public service work.
