President Zuma extends mandate period of Commission on Traditional Leadership Disputes and Claims

President Jacob Zuma, in terms of section 25(5) of the Traditional Leadership and Governance Framework Act, 2003 has extended the period within which the Commission on Traditional Leadership Disputes and Claims must complete its mandate.

The Commission's mandate period was due to lapse on 31 October 2009 and has now been extended to 31 January 2010.

The commission has yet to finalise its findings and determinations on the first phase of its work, which entails the investigation into the determination of Paramountcies and Paramount Chiefs.

A Bill on the amendments to chapter six of the Traditional Leadership and Governance Framework Act, 2003 is currently serving before Parliament.
