Minister Nkwinti to hand out vouchers worth more than R6 Million to Maapana Community
26 Jan 2012 The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform in Limpopo invites members of the media to the handing out of vouchers celebration to be held in the Greater Letaba Local Municipality in Mopani District at Mapaana Primary School in Mapaana Village on the 29th January 2012. The Minister of the Department Mr. Gugile Nkwinti accompanied by MEC for Agriculture in Limpopo province Ms Dipuo Letsatsi Duba will hand out vouchers worth more than R6 million to a total of 120 beneficiaries. The beneficiaries were dispossessed of their land in 1975 by the apartheid government and the main reason given was that the government wanted to plant coffee as the soil on their land was fertile for coffee plantation. Mr Alpheus Molate Mohale lodged the claim on behalf of Mapaana community on the 9th December 1998.The claim was on portion 8 of the farm Meidingen 398 LT located within the Greater Letaba Local Municipality. Since the land claimed by Mapaana beneficiaries is not feasible for restoration as it has been occupied by other communities for residential purposes, they will receive compensation because there is no alternative land in the vicinity of the claimed land and their current place of residence. The event will be held as follows: Date: 29 January 2012 (Sunday) Venue: Maapana Primary School in Mapaana Village outside Ga-kgapane (Ga-Modjajdji) Time: 9h00 NB: Journalists who will be attending please confirm either by phone or e-mail.
