Parliament goes to Energy sector and communities

Today, the Portfolio Committee on Energy will engage with stakeholders in the refinery industry in KwaZulu-Natal. The stakeholders invited include the Department of Energy, Transnet, wholesalers and retailers.

On Thursday the committee will have a public meeting on energy, where it will discuss the management of strategic fuel stocks options for South Africa. It will also have a meeting with the communities that live near the refineries.

Day1: Wednesday, 18 January 2011

09h00 to 13h00: Engagement with stakeholders in the refinery industry – SAPIA, DoE, Transnet, NERSA, wholesalers, retailers, BPI, etc.
(Venue: Elangeni Southern Hotel)
13h00 to 14h00: Lunch with KZN MPs/MPLs, University of KZN, SAPIA, DoE, Transnet, NERSA, wholesalers, retailers, BPI, etc.
14h00 to 15h30: Site visit to ENREF
15h30 to 17h00: Site visit to SAPREF

Day 2: Thursday, 19 January 2011

9h00 to 13h00: Briefing by the DoE on the ISMO Bill
13h00 to 14h00: Lunch
14h00 to 16h00: Meeting with the local communities in the vicinity of the refineries
(venue to be confirmed)
18h00 to 20h00: Energy Public Meeting: Topic - Management of strategic fuel stocks – options for South Africa

Venue: Durban University of Technology (DUT) – exact venue to be confirmed

Day 3: Friday, 20 January 2011 - Visit Marianhill Landfill

09h00 to 10h00: Briefing by eThekwini Metro
10h00 to 11h00: Expert testimony i.e. input by an expert on biomass energy technology 11h00 to 13h00: Site visit to Marianhill Landfill site
