Mchunu shocked at death of taxi owner in Nquthu

10 Jan 2012

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Willies Mchunu, has expressed shock at the death of Celani Ngobese a taxi operator.

It is alleged that at about 19h00 a group of unknown men were traveling in a Polo VW, opened fire at his home at Nquthu.

While Mchunu expressed concerns on the death of Ngobese he appalled the police for the swift reaction on apprehending the suspects.

It is alleged that the car they were travelling in (suspects) met with an accident and all three of them were arrested. They are to appear at the Nquthu magistrate court soon.

MEC Mchunu condemned the killing of Ngobese and vowed that police will investigate this matter till the end.

“We condemn this senseless killing. At this stage we do not want to come to any conclusions but view this as a pure act of criminality. If there was any dispute there should have come to discuss things and resolve them amicably instead of resorting to violence because it can never solve anything. I condemn such acts of violence and encourage people to engage each other to find solutions to problems. I would like to send my condolences to the Ngobese family”, said Mchunu.
