Five suspects arrested for drugs

15 Dec 2011

Five suspects have been arrested during a raid by members of the Directorate of Priority Crimes Investigation in the early hours of this morning. Following on a tip off, the police went to flat in a high rise building on Jeppe Street. Here they found drugs and cash, and arrested five suspects.

When our members knocked on the door, the suspects initially refused to open. One of them attempted to throw a bag out of the window, but abandoned this when he realised one of the members was watching the window from the pavement.

When the suspects opened, our team found the cocaine and heroin on the bed. They also found cash totaling an estimated R80 000. Fifty thousand rand of this was confiscated from a suspect who phoned to order drugs during the raid. Not realising that he was speaking to one of the detectives, he was arrested when he came to collect the order.

The drugs are valued at just over R2 million. The suspects are expected to appear in court tomorrow. They will be charged with possession and dealing in drugs.
