Provincial Men Summit: Theme: Asikhulumeni Madoda

28 Nov 2011

The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) in collaboration with the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, the Department of Correctional services, Department of Social Services and Mbombela Local Municipality will host a summit to engage men concerning the issues of gender equality, gender based violence, women empowerment and emancipation.

Through this public engagement, the above mentioned parties have identified several challenges and resistance to other men wherein certain areas women are still being viewed as subservient to men, particularly in rural areas. Also with the public and private sectors, women’s elevation is still a challenge and this cannot be negated or substituted from the patriarchal social order which ultimately negatively culminate to hamper any perceived gender equality or perceived gender transformation.

CGE and its partners cordially invite you to this extra-ordinary Provincial Men’s Summit on the theme “Asikhulumeni Madoda”. The summit is intended to:

  • To deliberate on the obstacles for women’s elevation and transformation with the public and public sectors (Gender Gap).
  • To raise awareness on international and regional instruments focussing on National legislations crafted for the promotion of gender equality.
  • To initiate discussions with the intention to deal with patriarchal social order which influence all other aspects from economic, social to political and how this impacts on gender transformation within a broader scope of transformation.
  • To expatiate on the role of men to the realisation of gender equality and moral regeneration.

The summit will be held as follows:
Date: 29 and 30 November 2011
