Mpumalanga Health calls for more nurse intake

19 Oct 2011

Mpumalanga Health Department invites mostly young people throughout the province to apply for the nursing intake for a four year Comprehensive Programme at Mpumalanga Nursing College for 2012.

Our focus mainly will be on the rural communities and child headed households which have high levels of poverty, targeting those that have passed Grade 12 at least with E and above with English and Biology or life sciences and at least with one other science subject such as Mathematics, Physical science, Agriculture, Geography and Home economics.

Furthermore, Home Based Care skills, training in Ancillary health care and Auxiliary nursing will serve as the added advantage to the students. Unfortunately Abet certificates (learning Area Certificates) are not recommended as they are not recognised by the South African Nursing Council.

Applicants must ensure that the following are submitted:

  • Letter of application
  • Certified copy of Matriculation/ Grade 12 Certificate/statement of results or midyear Grade 12 results.
  • Certified copy of Identity Document
  • Curriculum Vitae

The closing date for the applications is 30 November 2011.

The critical aspect of strengthening the effectiveness of the health system is the ability to recruit, train and retain skilled personnel in the department. The scarcity of health professionals is a global challenge, and developing countries like ours are worst affected and we hope that since we have finalised our Human Resource Plan, it will assist us to mitigate some of the challenges in recruiting, training and retaining of skilled personnel.

A total of 491 nursing students completed their studies at the Mpumalanga Nursing College in the previous academic year.

Application should be submitted directly to the Mpumalanga Nursing College:
