National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) rallies behind Golden Girl, Caster Semenya

20 Aug 2009

"Caster Semenya rocks and should be celebrated and not humiliated," says Andile Lungisa, Chairperson of the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA).

The NYDA wishes to join millions of South Africans in congratulating the 18 year old Caster who has made South Africa proud by winning a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships currently taking place in Berlin, Germany.

"We wish to state that as the NYDA we are fully behind Caster. We feel disappointed by the negative and humiliating reports that have cast doubts over the legitimacy of this young woman's gender. She is a very strong woman who has not allowed these reports to pull her spirits down; instead she has gone on to win gold. She is our GOLDEN GIRL and should be celebrated for that!" says Lungisa.

"I would like to call on South Africans especially youth to treat Caster the way she is supposed to be treated – like a champion," Lungisa concludes.
