Gauteng to launch Older Persons' Forum

26 Oct 2011

The Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development will tomorrow launch the provincial Older Persons’ Forum in Sharpville, Ekurhuleni.

Older persons are increasingly confronted with new challenges brought about by the changing social pressures of our time.

The grants that they receive from government have to cater for very large and extended families that depend on this money as the only source of income.

The HIV and AIDS pandemic, unemployment and poverty places another responsibility on older persons, resulting in them having to provide care and support to their families.

The forum, amongst other benefits, will provide government with a platform to engage with older persons on issues that impact on their lives and together find solutions to challenges that they are facing.

Journalists are invited to attend the launch.

Details are as follows:

Date: Thursday, 27 October 2011
Time: 10h00
Venue: Sharpeville Care of the Aged (Rhonda Yende Hall)

Enquiries:
Simon Zwane
Cell: 082 551 9892
