Gauteng law enforcement women took 49 vehicles off the road

22 Aug 2011

As part of women’s month programme, traffic law enforcement women comprising of Gauteng Traffic Police, Ekurhuleni and South African Police Services took to the street to maintain levels of safety on Gauteng Roads.  The women only road block operation that took place at the R21 Engen Garage yesterday, saw over 49 vehicles taken off the road for various vehicle defects.

This is a huge number compared to a total of 502 vehicles stopped and searched over two hour period.

More operations are expected as women’s month draw to a close across Gauteng.  When talking to motorists as to whether they felt inconvenienced, one motorist replied ’ I am thankful as we feel safe driving on our roads.

There are many vehicles that are not roadworthy and drivers that drive recklessly, and we can only hope that operations such as these, are permanent feature on Gauteng roads’. Said one motorist who did not want to be named.
