Minister Dlamini launches campaign to encourage men’s involvement in children’s lives

10 Aug 2011

Minister of Social Development Bathabile Dlamini will tomorrow launch the MenCare campaign in collaboration with the Sonke Gender Justice Network and Instituto Promundo.

This is a global campaign that aims to engage men as active and equal partners to promote better HIV and AIDS outcomes, improve maternal health as well as sexual and reproductive health. It also seeks, through men, to reduce gender-based violence and promote child development and economic empowerment for women.

Research shows that positive father involvement is good for children, women and men themselves.

The campaign seeks to highlight the role of men as caregivers while providing a concrete programme and policy examples of how to increase such positive involvement.

Members of the media are invited to the launch which will be held as follows:
Date: Thursday, 11 August 2011
Time: 13h00 to 16h00
Venue: Nike Football Training Centre, (Old Potch Road), Klipspruit, Soweto (in the vicinity of former Soweto College of Education).
