67 Minutes of the Mandela Month continues at Mathibestad, Hammanskraal

3 Aug 2011

On Friday, 5 August, the Chief of the South African Navy, Vice Admiral Johannes Mudimu and staff members will hand over The Noah’s Ark Crèche for orphans situated in Mathibestad at 10h00.

This is but one of the many contributions by the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) which aims to serve as a global call to action for people to “recognise their individual power to make an imprint and help change the world around them for the better”.

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has participated in various activities to mark Mandela Day throughout the country. The SANDF has declared the July month for the SANDF to contribute to the well being of the communities where it is based in acknowledging former President Nelson Mandela, the first Commander-in-Chief of the SANDF.

The South African Navy identified the school, as it needed much resources and improvements on its facilities. The Naval Headquarters and SAS Immortelle members cleaned and refurbished Noah’s Ark crèche in Mathibastad by repairing the toilets, ceiling, and painting the roof. In addition they conducted first aid training as well as donated baby mattresses, clothes, shoes, stationary, food parcels, tables, chairs, toys, curtain rails and computers. Maintenance work has been carried out over the past three weeks and the school is now ready to be handed back to the Principle of the school and the community as a completed project.
