23 May 2011

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Human Settlements, Desbo Mohono says that the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the National Prosecution Agency are in the process of fast tracking cases recorded during the local government processes through the court process.

Sixty-seven cases were reported across the North West Province during the 2011 local government elections. They include malicious damage to property, intimidation, public violence, assault and contravention of the electoral act.

MEC Mohono commends the Provincial Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (Provjoints) led by SAPS for effective implementation of the integrated operational plan for the 2011 local government elections that yielded a peaceful, free and fair elections.

North West was one of the provinces prioritised for close monitoring by the National Commissioner, General Bheki Cele during the local government elections due to pre-election protests.
