The South African Embassy in Burundi in the past week welcomed Professor LS Mollo, Director-General of the Public Administration Leadership and Management Academy of South Africa (PALAMA), for a week long workshop with PALAMA’s Burundian, Rwandese and South-Sudanese counterparts. The workshop took place at the Hotel Club du Lac Tanganyika. Prof Mollo was accompanied by a team of five officials from PALAMA.

This workshop was part of a Regional Capacity Building Project between PALAMA and three public administration training agencies from countries that have experienced conflict in the recent past, the Ecole National d’Administration of Burundi (ENA), the Rwandan Institute of Administration and Management (RIAM) and the Capacity Building Unit of the Ministry of Human Resource Development in Southern Sudan (CBU). The project is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and runs over five years, having started in March 2008 and is scheduled to conclude in March 2013. The total value of the project is Canadian Dollar $10,5 million.

The aim of the project is to build the capacity of the three partner agencies in order to deliver training to the public services in their countries. There is a strong focus on strengthening the integrated management and leadership capacity of the respective public services and to achieve tangible improvement of service delivery in the three countries, which is essential for sustainable development.
