MEC Mchunu condemns the killing of councillor at Montclair

1 Mar 2011

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Willies Mchunu strongly condemns the shooting and killing of a councillor at Montclair yesterday, 1 March 2011 in the evening.

Preliminary reports reveal that, Councillor Wiseman Mshibe (40) was entering the driveway of his home at Montclair when he was attacked by unknown gunmen. When the Councillor realised that he was under attack he reversed out of the driveway in an attempt to flee from his attackers.

It is alleged that he managed to drive to the KFC in Montclair where he was assisted by a passerby who took him to St. Augustine’s Hospital. Unfortunately he sustained multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed to death. A case of murder has been registered at South African Police Services (SAPS) Montclair.

MEC Mchunu will be visiting the family of the deceased at his homestead at Yellowwood Park, outside Durban, today 2 March 2011.

“I would like to send my deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. We are very concerned about the killings of councillors in the province as we are approaching Local Government elections. We appeal for calm and tolerance in our province. The police will do everything they can to bring perpetrators to book,” said Mchunu.
