Media advisory

13 Feb 2011

As part of the Valentine’s Day celebrations, the Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, will attend a wedding of an elderly couple at the Soweto Home for the aged.

The wedding ceremony will take place as follows:

Date: 14 February 2011
Time: 09h30
Venue: Soweto Home for the Aged, 3146 Mphuthi Street, Central Western Jabavu, Soweto

The couple has been staying at the Soweto Home for the Aged for a long while along with other older persons who have found a home in the centre that protects them from abuse, neglect and exploitation.

The Minister views older persons as custodians of wisdom from whose life experiences we can shape our understanding of the current times.

The Department of Social Development continues to encourage active ageing and considers the elderly as distinguished citizens who can participate in society’s affairs regardless of age.

Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the event.
